Universality of asymptotic correlations in modified 2D Ising models

The planar Ising model has been a perennial object of study in probability and statistical physics due to the fact that it is exactly solvable in a very strong sense, with highly nontrivial behavior which is universal (i.e. representative of a larger class of models which are not exactly solvable). In this talk I will discuss some recent results (see arXiv:1204.4040) clarifying this connection, using rigorous renormalization group techniques to show that an exact solution of the Ising model can be used to describe in detail many asymptotic correlation functions of many modified models.
