Mathematical modeling of mucociliary transport
This work deals with the mathematical modeling of mucociliary transport, a natural mechanism allowing the expulsion of mucus thanks to bronchial cilia, that beat in a viscous fluid. Our model describes the action of a forest of cilia over a bifluid (mucus layer + periciliary layer (PCL)). Each cilium is described individually as a 1D structure with prescribed movement. Inertia is negligible, so our model is based on a bifluid Stokes problem.
